Key Takeaways:
The LONGi Hi-MO X10 reaches 23.3–24.0% efficiency, loses only 0.26% of output per °C of heat and carries a 30-year power warranty that promises 88.85% output at year 30. LONGi's test results are strong, so panel quality is rarely the issue; price and who backs your warranty matter more. The back-contact premium pays off on small or shaded roofs, and much less if a high-wattage TOPCon panel gives you the same output on your roof.
LR7-54HVH-485M. If that code sits on your solar quote, your installer has specified a LONGi Hi-MO X10, one of the most efficient panels sold for home roofs today. The code tells you more than the brand name does, and it's the first thing to check when you compare quotes.
The short answer: LONGi is a well-tested brand and the Hi-MO X10 is a sound panel. Whether it's worth the premium depends on your roof, any shaed on it, and the panel it's being compared with.
LONGi is no small name in Singapore. The company says its local market share grew from 3% to 40% between 2019 and 2023. That figure leans on large commercial projects such as the 19.2 MWp solar farm at Changi Business Park, so it says little about how many landed homes run LONGi panels.
This guide answers who makes LONGi, whether the panels are good quality, how they compare with other brands, and if the back-contact premium pays off on an average Singaporean roof.
If you're new to how a home system fits together, start with how solar panels work.
Is LONGi a Chinese Company?
Yes. LONGi Green Energy Technology is a Chinese company, founded on 14 February 2000 in Xi'an, Shaanxi, where it keeps its headquarters. It started as a silicon wafer maker and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (stock code 601012) in April 2012.
In 2025 it shipped 86.58 GW of solar modules and 111.56 GW of monocrystalline wafers. It sold 48.57 GW of those wafers to other manufacturers, so many panels from other brands start life as LONGi silicon.
LONGi's first overseas production base opened in Kuching, Sarawak, and it later added factories north of Kuala Lumpur. The country of manufacture appears on the panel label and shipping documents, so ask your installer if it matters to you.
Is LONGi a Good Solar Panel Brand?
Yes. LONGi is one of the most consistently tested panel makers in the world, with Independent lab Kiwa PVEL naming LONGi a Top Performer in its 2025 PV Module Reliability Scorecard. Only 21 module types achieved Top Performer across every core reliability test that year.
Kiwa PVEL stress-tests panels for the things that wear them out early: repeated heating and cooling, heavy mechanical loads, and degradation from light, heat and voltage. Its results apply to specific module models, not whole brands, so ask your installer whether the model on your quote was tested. That tells you more than a "Tier 1" label on a quote.
Quality is only half the picture. The other half is whether the company will still be around to honour a 30-year warranty, which we cover below.
Which LONGi Panel Is on Your Quote?
LONGi sells several panel families, and only some are built for home roofs. Here's how they line up:
| Series | Cell technology | Typical home panel | Module efficiency | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hi-MO 6 | HPBC (first-generation back contact) | 420–440 W | Around 22.5% | Homes (older generation) |
| Hi-MO X6 / X6 Max | HPBC | 460–475 W | Around 23% | Homes and businesses |
| Hi-MO X10 | HPBC 2.0 | 475–500 W | 23.3–24.0% (Explorer) | Homes and businesses (current flagship) |
| Hi-MO S10 | HBC (heterojunction back contact) | Premium residential | Top of LONGi's range | Premium homes |
| Hi-MO 7 / Hi-MO 9 | Large-format modules | 600 W and up | Up to 24.8% | Solar farms, not home roofs |
Sources: LONGi, LONGi Europe press releases (2025), distributor datasheets. Efficiencies for older series are approximate.
If your quote lists a Hi-MO X10, you're getting LONGi's current home panel. A Hi-MO 6 still performs well, but it's a generation older, so it should cost less per watt.
How do you read a LONGi model code?
Take a common home panel for example, LR7-54HVH-485M. Each part tells you:
- LR: LONGi.
- 7: the product platform. LR5 marks the older Hi-MO 6; LR7 covers the Hi-MO X6 Max and X10.
- 54: a 54-cell layout, cut into 108 half-cells. This is the home-sized panel; 60 and 72 mean larger panels.
- H: half-cut cells, which lower resistance losses.
- V: HPBC 2.0 cells. A T in this spot means first-generation HPBC (Hi-MO 6 or X6).
- H, D or B: single glass with a backsheet, dual glass, or full black.
- 485M: 485 watts, monocrystalline.
Are LONGi Solar Panels Good Quality? The Hi-MO X10 Specs
On paper, the Hi-MO X10 sits near the top of the home market. These figures come from LONGi's Hi-MO X10 product page and datasheet:
| Spec | Hi-MO X10 Explorer (LR7-54HVH) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Cell technology | HPBC 2.0, n-type, back contact | No metal grid on the front, so more of each cell catches light |
| Power | 475–490 W | Fewer panels for the same system size |
| Module efficiency | 23.3–24.0% | More power from every square metre of roof |
| Size and weight | 1800 × 1134 × 30 mm, 21.6 kg | Standard home size, light enough for most roofs |
| Temperature coefficient (Pmax) | −0.26%/°C | Output lost for every °C above 25°C |
| Degradation | Under 1% in year 1, then 0.35%/year | Slow, predictable output decline |
| Power warranty | 30 years, 88.85% output at year 30 | LONGi's promise on long-term output |
| Product warranty | 15 years (longer on some variants and markets) | Covers defects such as a failed junction box |
| Load rating | 5,400 Pa front / 2,400 Pa rear | Handles strong wind and heavy rain |
The notable numbers are efficiency and heat tolerance. The weak spot is the 15-year standard product warranty, which trails the 25 years some rivals offer.
What does back contact actually mean?
Most panels, including TOPCon panels, carry thin silver lines across the front of each cell to collect current. Those lines shade a little of the cell. A back-contact panel moves every contact to the rear, which is why LONGi panels look plain black from the front and squeeze more power from the same area.
For how this compares with other cell types, see our guide to types of solar panels.
Warranty versus lifespan
The two warranties cover different things. The 30-year power warranty promises output, while the 15-year product warranty covers manufacturing defects. Most quality panels keep producing for 25 to 30 years or more, well past the product warranty.
Your inverter won't last as long, which is why it's worth reading up our guides on Huawei or Sungrow inverters first before you consider one.
Is LONGi's 30-Year Warranty Safe?
LONGi has been losing money. It reported a net loss of about RMB 8.6 billion in 2024 and about RMB 6.4 billion in 2025, and said in July that it expects another loss for the first half of 2026. Most large Chinese manufacturers are in the same position after years of oversupply and falling prices. Trina Solar, for example, lost about RMB 7 billion in 2025.
That doesn’t mean the panels are poor. LONGi’s operating cash flow turned positive in 2025, and it remains one of the largest manufacturers in the world. It does mean a 30-year power warranty is only as good as the company, or the installer, standing behind it.
You can reduce that risk:
Ask who handles warranty claims in Singapore, and whether they will replace a failed panel first and claim it back themselves.
Get the warranty terms for your exact model in writing.
Choose an installer with its own workmanship guarantee and a track record you can check.
How Do LONGi Panels Handle Singapore's Heat and Shade?
LONGi panels lose less output in heat than most TOPCon panels, but the difference is marginal. Every panel is rated at a 25°C cell temperature, and rooftops in Singapore run far hotter. Here's what each temperature coefficient costs you as the cells heat up:
| Cell temperature | LONGi Hi-MO X10 (−0.26%/°C) | Typical TOPCon (−0.29%/°C) | Older PERC (−0.35%/°C) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45°C | 5.2% lost | 5.8% lost | 7.0% lost |
| 55°C | 7.8% lost | 8.7% lost | 10.5% lost |
| 65°C | 10.4% lost | 11.6% lost | 14.0% lost |
Calculated from each panel type's temperature coefficient against the 25°C test standard.
At 65°C, a Hi-MO X10 keeps about 1.2 percentage points more output than a −0.29%/°C TOPCon panel. This is a real advantage, but a not unique one as Jinko's Tiger Neo 3.0 matches LONGi at −0.26%/°C.
Shade is where back contact claims a bigger lead. LONGi says the Hi-MO X10's design cuts power loss under partial shading by 70% compared with TOPCon. That's a manufacturer claim, but it matters for roofs with water thanks, parapet walls or heavy shading. It's also worth asking your installer about optimisers or microinverters, which limit shade losses at panel level. Ask what they would add to your quote and compare.
Cloudy days affect every brand; see how panels perform in rainy weather.
Which Is Better, Jinko or LONGi?
Neither brand wins outright. On their current home panels, LONGi and Jinko sit closer together than either brand suggests:
| Spec | LONGi Hi-MO X10 (54-cell) | Jinko Tiger Neo 3.0 (home size) |
|---|---|---|
| Cell technology | HPBC 2.0 back contact | N-type TOPCon |
| Home panel power | 475–500 W | 460–485 W |
| Module efficiency | Up to around 24% | Up to around 24.3% |
| Temperature coefficient | −0.26%/°C | −0.26%/°C |
| Yearly degradation (after year 1) | 0.35% | 0.35% |
| Power warranty | 30 years | 30 years |
| Product warranty | 15 years standard | 15 years (25 years on all-black) |
| Front appearance | No visible grid lines | Thin grid lines |
| Maker's performance claim | 70% less shading loss than TOPCon | 10–20% more output than back contact in low light |
Sources: LONGi, JinkoSolar Tiger Neo 3.0, pv magazine, distributor datasheets.
Jinko leads slightly on efficiency at the top of its range. LONGi has a small edge on heat and degradation. The 30-year power warranties match. The bigger differences come down to looks, shade behaviour, product warranty and price.
- Choose LONGi: if your roof is small or partly shaded, or you want a clean all-black look facing the street.
- Choose Jinko: if it's cheaper for the same wattage, or the all-black version's 25-year product warranty matters to you.
At a similar price, pick whichever comes with the longer product warranty and an installer who handles claims locally.
Are LONGi Panels Worth the Premium on a Singapore Roof?
Back-contact panels usually cost more per watt than TOPCon, and the premium only pays off in some situations. The biggest factor is the wattage of the panel you’re comparing against. Take a landed home with room for 16 panels. System size is measured in kWp (kilowatt-peak), the system’s rated output under test conditions.
| Option | Panels | System size | Estimated output per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| LONGi Hi-MO X10, 485 W | 16 | 7.76 kWp | Around 9,700 kWh |
| TOPCon (Trina Vertex S+), 450 W | 16 | 7.20 kWp | Around 9,000 kWh |
| TOPCon (Trina Vertex S+), 450 W | 17 | 7.65 kWp | Around 9,560 kWh |
Estimates assume 1,250 kWh per kWp per year. Your roof's direction and shading will affect the figures.
Against a 450 W TOPCon panel on the same 16 spots, LONGi produces around 700 kWh more a year, roughly 8% extra, before its small heat advantage. If your roof has room for a 17th TOPCon panel, the gap falls to around 140 kWh. The Hi-MO X10 is also 38 mm longer than the Vertex S+, which can matter on a tight roof.
Against a 485 W TOPCon panel, the gap is close to zero. Wattage drives output, not the label on the box. If you’re comparing quotes, check the wattage of both panels before you compare prices.
What is the extra output worth?
The 700 kWh gap is worth about S$218 a year at the Q4 2026 SP Group tariff of about 31 cents per kWh including GST, if you use all of it yourself. Exported power earns less. Over 25 years that’s roughly S$5,450 at today’s tariff, before panel degradation and tariff changes.
As a rule of thumb, every S$1,000 of extra system cost needs about four and a half years of that extra output to pay itself back. A LONGi premium much above S$5,000 on the whole system is unlikely to repay at today’s tariff. The tariff changes every quarter, and savings vary with your roof, usage and system size. For full system pricing, see our solar installation and maintenance cost breakdown.
Where LONGi earns its premium
- Terrace and cluster homes: small roofs where you can't fit another panel gain the most from extra watts per panel.
- Roofs with partial shade: water tanks, dormers and parapets favour back contact's shading behaviour.
- Street-facing roofs: the all-black front looks cleaner overall.
Where it doesn't
- Bungalows and semi-detached homes with spare roof: an extra TOPCon panel adds output for less money.
- Systems capped by inverter size: if your inverter limits output, extra panel watts are wasted.
- Homes empty in the day: more of your solar gets exported at a lower rate, so extra output is worth less.
For another back-contact option, compare our AIKO solar panels guide.
Are LONGi Panels Approved for Use in Singapore?
Singapore doesn't publish a list of approved panel brands. What counts is that the exact panel model carries IEC 61215 certification for durability and IEC 61730 certification for electrical safety, and that a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) signs off your installation.
LONGi's current home panels list both standards on their datasheets. Ask your installer for the certificates that match the model number on your quote.
What Should You Ask Before Signing a LONGi Quote?
A strong brand doesn't guarantee a strong quote. Ask these 5 questions first:
- Which exact model and wattage is on the quote: a Hi-MO X10, or an older Hi-MO 6?
- Is the product warranty 15 years, or does this variant carry more, and who registers it with LONGi?
- Can you show the IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 certificates for this exact model?
- Who handles warranty claims in Singapore if a panel fails?
- Will you commit in writing to how much the system produces each year?
At GetSolar, our Rent-to-Own systems come with a 90% production guarantee, backed by a written payback commitment. For a deeper look at sizing, costs and savings for a landed home, see our complete guide to solar energy in Singapore.
LONGi Solar Panels: Frequently Asked Questions
Is LONGi a good solar panel brand?
Largely, yes. LONGi is one of the world's largest panel makers and an eight-time Kiwa PVEL Top Performer. Its main risk is financial: it lost money in 2024 and 2025 along with most Chinese manufacturers.
How long do LONGi solar panels last?
Expect 25 to 30 years or more of useful output. The power warranty runs 30 years; the product warranty against defects runs 15 years as standard.
Do LONGi panels work well in Singapore's heat?
Better than most. At a 65°C cell temperature, a Hi-MO X10 loses about 10.4% of its rated output, against 11.6% for a typical TOPCon panel.
Are LONGi panels worth paying extra for?
Only if roof space is your limit. On a roof that fits one more panel, a cheaper TOPCon system closes most of the output gap.
Is LONGi's 30-year warranty safe?
It’s backed by a manufacturer that has been loss-making since 2024, so it’s only as strong as the claims support behind it. Ask your installer who handles claims in Singapore and get the terms in writing.
LONGi Is a Well-Tested Brand. Your Roof and Your Quote Decide If It’s the Right One.
LONGi makes some of the best-tested panels on the market, and the Hi-MO X10 is a sound choice for most landed homes, provided the quote lists the exact model and the warranty terms in writing.
Its premium earns its keep on small or shaded roofs, or when the alternative is a lower-wattage panel. Against a high-wattage TOPCon panel, you’re mostly paying for looks and shade performance. On a 16-panel roof, the output gap against a 450 W panel is worth roughly S$5,450 over 25 years at today’s tariff, before degradation. That’s a useful ceiling for any premium you’re quoted.
