What is Solar ATAP?

Solar ATAP (Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme) is Malaysia’s new rooftop solar policy that replaced the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme starting 1 January 2026.

Under Solar ATAP:

  • Install solar panels to generate electricity for your home
  • Daytime solar usage reduces your TNB electricity bill
  • Surplus solar energy may be exported to the grid under defined rules, with credits based on prevailing rates

The programme makes rooftop solar more flexible and widely accessible, with larger system limits and no strict quota at launch.

Can I sell excess solar energy back to the grid?

Yes, excess solar energy can still be exported to the grid, subject to current regulatory approvals and prevailing policies from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA).

Malaysia’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme, which offered 1-to-1 energy credit offsets with monthly carry-forward, has ended. Today, most residential solar systems operate under a self-consumption model, meaning your savings are maximised by using solar energy directly during the day.

Our team will guide you through the latest rules and opportunities during your consultation.

Are solar panels a good investment?

Yes, especially for landed homeowners with electricity bills above RM500 per month.

Solar ATAP helps you:

  • Reduce electricity bills by 20–70%
  • Protect against rising electricity tariffs
  • Increase long-term property appeal
  • Generate savings for 25+ years

Today, savings come from optimising daytime solar usage rather than relying on export credits.
