Solar panels are designed to convert sunlight into energy, so even during cloudy days, you’ll still expect your solar system to be generating between 40-80% of the electricity compared to a sunny day. However, when there is no longer any sunlight during the night, the inverter on your solar panel system will automatically power off, before it powers on again in the early morning.
In any case, don’t worry! When your solar panels are taking a break, your home automatically switches to drawing electricity from the grid to keep things running smoothly. The lights will stay on, day or night!

Yes, under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, you can sell excess solar energy generated by your PV system back to TNB. For the surplus energy exported, you earn credits on a “one-on-one” offset basis, meaning 1 kWh exported = 1 kWh credit offset against 1 kWh consumed from the grid. These credits will first be used to offset your monthly TNB bill, potentially reducing it to zero. Any surplus credits will roll over and be used to offset your bill for future month.
However, do note that credits are only valid until the end of the calendar year — any unused credits will expire after this period. The NEM program is open to residential customers and other eligible users with approved solar PV systems.

The amount of SolaRIS rebate you can receive is based on the declared installed capacity of your solar PV system in kWac, which can be found on your NEM Rakyat certificate.
The rebate amount is RM 1,000 per kWac, with a maximum rebate of RM 4,000. For instance, if your system has a capacity of 2.5 kWac, your rebate would be 2 kWac * RM 1,000 = RM 2,000. If your system has a capacity of 4 kWac or more, the rebate is capped at RM 4,000.
The rebate will be deposited into your TNB-registered bank account after the system’s commissioning and successful application.

There are 2 main types of warranties when it comes to solar panels, under which manufacturers are obliged to provide a 1-for-1 replacement:

At GetSolar, on top of offering these product warranties, we also provide a guarantee to all customers which encompasses the following:

Once you sign your contract and initial downpayment or deposit is paid, our customer success team will commence your Net Energy Metering (NEM) application with SEDA. This process typically takes 2-3 weeks, and once approved, we will schedule an installation time slot for you. Once our team is on site, the solar installation is pretty fuss-free and is mostly completed within 1 day! For larger roofs, this may take up to 3 days to be completed.
Once this is done, your solar system is ready for turn-on, and we’ll just need to await for TNB to conduct a meter change before we can do so. TNB’s speed can range from as little as 2 days to as long as 2 months, dependent on your region. Once the meter change has been completed, you can now start enjoying savings from the sun!

Solar panel systems, being hardwired with minimal moving parts, require little maintenance. However, we usually recommend our customers to think of solar panel maintenance like air-conditioning maintenance. It is always best to do this regularly even if the system is still performing, in order to detect or fix any issues early before it results in more serious problems.
The frequency of cleaning and maintenance can vary depending on factors like roof slope, building location, and environmental debris, however GetSolar recommends doing a preventive maintenance once every 1-1.5 years, as well as corrective or ad-hoc maintenance where needed.
If you’ve installed solar panels through our Rent-To-Own program (for residential owners) or Power Purchase Agreement (for commercial property owners), you won’t have to worry about any of this, as we’ve got you covered with free regular inspections and maintenance as part of your plan. Our worry-free solar plans also include all repairs, servicing and a performance guarantee so there will not be any out-of-pocket costs related to the solar system over the lifetime of your contract.
For those who made an upfront purchase, simply reach out to our team, and we’ll arrange maintenance sessions for you, with a little extra cost.

Yes, certainly! However, do note that as the property owner, you may have to bear the cost of removal and this will have to be assessed on a case by case basis. The cost of temporary removal and re-installation of the solar panels will depend on labour as well as the complexity of your roof.

By default, no. Most solar panel systems in Malaysia are grid-tied, and do not require solar batteries to power your home. This setup enables surplus solar energy to be fed back into the grid, which you will be compensated for through the Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, while you will be drawing down electricity from the grid when you solar panels aren’t producing energy e.g. at night, meaning there will be no disruption to your power supply.
Here at GetSolar, we do not currently recommend including a battery with your solar system as this will often increase costs of your solar system by about 50%, as well as extend your payback period by about 3-5 years for little benefit.

Typically roofs are built to withstand human weight, with a point load of at least 100 kg/m2 (for concrete roofs, at least around 250 kg/m2). Since our solar panel systems are usually between 30-50 kg/m2 (maximum 70 kg/m2 with concrete ballasts weighing them down on concrete roofs), there wouldn’t be any issues.
However for the cautious, you can also reach out to your main contractor or Qualified Professional (QP) for your home or building to double check on this.

You can check whether your property is single phase or three phase by taking a look at your house’s meter box. This can usually be found at the entrance to your property, near the gate. Look out for labels or descriptions like “1PH” or “3-Phase” on the meter box itself.

Most solar panel suppliers in Singapore will only use panels and inverters manufactured by Tier 1 companies. These are also the preferred choice among many property owners, especially those panels with a warranty of at least 25 years.
For residential systems, some of the most favoured solar panel brands include Jinko, Trina, AIKO, JA Solar, and REC; common inverter brands include Huawei, Sungrow, SMA and Fronius. This industry-wide preference for renowned brands highlights the commitment to quality and reliability in solar installations in Singapore.
Additionally, we would also recommend monocrystalline panels as they have the most efficient cell technology, giving you the best return on investment. You can find out more on the different types of solar panels here!
