Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth installing solar panels for my home?

Arrow pointing down

In short, yes. Solar panels are a win-win: you save on electricity and get credited for the clean energy you contribute back to the grid, which can further offset your power bill. Additionally, you’re helping the planet.

In Malaysia’s climate where it is sunny all year round, installing solar panels for your home can help you save energy and costs. However, how much you save is dependent on your roof size and site conditions. Find out how much you can potentially save with our solar calculator tool.

Can I install solar panels on my HDB / Condo / MCST property?

Arrow pointing down

Condominium owners must ensure they have legal rights to the property where the solar PV system will be installed. This may involve obtaining permission from the condominium management or homeowners’ association, particularly since the installation will impact common areas like the rooftop.

Will my solar panels work at night and on cloudy days?

Arrow pointing down

Solar panels are designed to convert sunlight into energy, so even during cloudy days, you’ll still expect your solar system to be generating between 40-80% of the electricity compared to a sunny day. However, when there is no longer any sunlight during the night, the inverter on your solar panel system will automatically power off, before it powers on again in the early morning.

In any case, don’t worry! When your solar panels are taking a break, your home automatically switches to drawing electricity from the grid to keep things running smoothly. The lights will stay on, day or night!

Is my rooftop suitable for a solar panel installation?

Arrow pointing down

In sunny Malaysia, most rooftops are a great match for solar panels. However, if your roof is super steep or has a complex design with multiple angles or dormer windows, it might not be the smoothest fit for a solar panel system. These unique roof features can make panel placement a bit tricky due to limited space, and it might even add some extra costs. So while most roofs are a-ok, it’s always a good idea to have our GetSolar pros take a look to make sure it’s feasible for your specific roof. Simply reach out to us on WhatsApp or send in an enquiry from our solar calculator and our team can advise you further!

How much SolaRIS rebate can I receive and how will it be paid?

Arrow pointing down

The amount of SolaRIS rebate you can receive is based on the declared installed capacity of your solar PV system in kWac, which can be found on your NEM Rakyat certificate.

The rebate amount is RM 1,000 per kWac, with a maximum rebate of RM 4,000. For instance, if your system has a capacity of 2.5 kWac, your rebate would be 2 kWac * RM 1,000 = RM 2,000. If your system has a capacity of 4 kWac or more, the rebate is capped at RM 4,000.

The rebate will be deposited into your TNB-registered bank account after the system’s commissioning and successful application.
