From the initial estimates and design, implementation and launch of the solar energy system, they were friendly, transparent and diligent. Many thanks to Davies and his team who carried the solar panels to the top floor and then install them on the roof and being so careful all the way not to cause any damage to my property. The Rent-to-Own program was key to my decision to take on this venture. It provided a reasonble cost to own a solar energy system. Efforts on my part were minimum, the contracts well explained and the quality of work was great! They'd also listen to my requirements and adjusted the design to suit my needs. Overall a good experience. One suggestion to improve is to be more accurate in the PV layout in the early stages so as to avoid any surprises and missed opportunities. My 3-month marketing internship experience at Solar AI was a solid one. My supervisors were focused on output rather than the input, emphasising on efficiency and staff welfare, something I find is hard to find in many companies. The work was challenging at times, considering that initiatives were built from the ground up since Solar AI is a relatively new start-up. Sometimes, it would be discouraging to see a lack of results. However, I was able to take away valuable insights with the guidance of supervisors, while having the freedom to come up with my own working style and initiatives in this new role which I had no prior experience in. Support and encouragement within the family-like environment definitely was of help, along with the aesthetic and conducive office spaces (with good coffee and healthy snacks!). We almost didn't get solar... When we first contacted Solar AI we were advised against installing solar. The solar panels would outlive our current roof (30+ years tiles). The choice between buying and leasing solar panels is all about what works best for your budget. If you have the financial flexibility, buying your own solar system can be a great option. However, if budget constraints make your shift towards solar challenging, you can enter a PPA, which serves as an affordable alternative.

How long does it take to complete a commercial solar panel installation?

Commercial systems can take anywhere between 1 to 3 months depending on the size and complexity of the project.

How long will a solar panel system last?

A solar panel system is designed to be durable and can last for at least 30 years.

Most solar panels have a warranty period of 25 to 30 years, while inverters have a warranty period of 5 to 12 years. Keep in mind that it is common to replace inverters at least once during the system's lifetime to ensure its continued efficiency.

Can I benefit from the excess energy generated by my solar panel system?

Yes! You will be able to enjoy rebates on the excess solar energy generated by your solar panel system through SP Services. For those using SP services, these rebates are based on the standard electricity tariff rate minus grid charges, which typically accounts for around 25% of your total electricity cost.

For those who have signed with an Open Electricity Market (OEM) retailer, the compensation is based on the Wholesale Uniform Singapore Energy Price (USEP).

Are there any grants for solar available in Singapore?

In short, yes. For those considering commercial solar panel installation, solar PV projects are now eligible for funding through the Building and Construction Authority (BCA)'s Green Mark Incentive Scheme for Existing Buildings (GMIS-EB 2.0). However, it is important that your building first obtains a Green Mark Certification Rating to be eligible for the scheme. This certification will also determine the funding factor you are allocated. Do also take note that there are specific eligibility criteria that must be met before you may apply for the scheme.

I am buying electricity from the wholesale electricity market. Will my solar panel installation be linked to my contract with my electricity retailer?

No. Your PPA solar electricity tariff is not tied to your electricity retailer contract, thereby providing you with the flexibility to install solar at any point regardless of your contract’s end date.
